Sandwich Students

The application process for Sandwich Student placements for 2009 has now closed.

Each year, we recruit a number of sandwich students to work in different roles across the Bank for a 13 month placement. These positions provide an excellent opportunity to gain work experience in a stimulating and challenging environment where you can contribute to the Bank’s policy, research and operations on current topical issues.

The Financial Accounts Assistant will be part of the Financial Accounts team performing accounts reconciliations and support for the production of the weekly bank return and other accounting outputs. The Financial Accounts Team is responsible for the production of the bank’s published financial accounts on an IFRS basis, overseeing financial controls in the Bank and providing technical support to senior management and business areas on projects or other work where there are accounting issues. This is a good opportunity to see the Bank’s business from the centre.

Research assistants will gain first hand experience in the Bank’s core work. Working alongside economists on a wide range of issues (including monetary, financial, labour market and international economics). Your role will typically include briefing, producing charts and tables for Monetary Policy and Financial Stability Committees and manipulating economic and financial data for research projects.

The HR Data Analyst will provide accurate and timely support to the Pay Adviser in order to satisfy customer/Divisional needs for management information (MI). There will also be the opportunity to undertake research assignments to address policy and MI issues, and deliver high quality output. Additionally, the job holder will review the HR intranet and make recommendations for streamlining.

Project assistants will work in our Banking Services division. The successful candidate will be placed within the Custody Settlement & Liquidity (CSL) Systems Renewal Project Team. The team was set up to facilitate and manage the rationalisation of existing legacy systems and improve operation efficiency through the introduction of straight through processing with the existing settlement infrastructure. The Project Assistant will assist with project processes and will support testing, trialling and implementation as well as supporting senior team members.
